Islamabad 5 August: The National Assembly of Pakistan unanimously passed two resolutions condemning India’s illegal actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on August 5, 2019, when India revoked the region’s special status under Article 370.

The first resolution, moved by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam, strongly denounced India’s discriminatory measures and ongoing oppression in IIOJK. It highlighted the resilience of the Kashmiri people, stating that their resolve has only strengthened in the face of India’s actions. The resolution noted that recent global advocacy has “shattered India’s arrogance” in attempting to suppress the Kashmiri struggle.

It also criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for calling for protests on August 5, terming it “regrettable” and divisive.
The second resolution, presented in English by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Shazia Marri, declared that India’s unilateral actions cannot revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. It emphasized that the dispute remains an “incomplete agenda of Partition” and must be resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.

Both resolutions received unanimous approval, reflecting a unified stance across political divides. The session follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent statement reaffirming Pakistan’s unflinching support for the Kashmiri people, amid ongoing tensions highlighted by reports of Indian Air Force activity near the Line of Control earlier today.
