Islamabad, August 10: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has announced a remarkable uptick in its financial recoveries for the second quarter of 2025 (April-June), collecting Rs456.3 billion—approximately USD 1.6 billion—a dramatic rise of Rs365.29 billion from the Rs91.01 billion secured in the first quarter.
This surge has propelled the total recovery for the first half of the year to Rs547.31 billion, showcasing NAB’s intensified anti-corruption drive.
Of this amount, Rs532.33 billion, encompassing both movable and immovable assets, has been transferred to various federal and provincial ministries, government agencies, and financial institutions to address public losses. Additionally, NAB has provided compensation to 12,611 individuals impacted by fraud cases, offering a measure of relief to affected citizens.
Over the past two years, the bureau’s efforts have yielded a cumulative recovery of Rs5,854.73 billion, a staggering 700% leap from the Rs839.08 billion amassed since its establishment.
Notable achievements include the reclamation of 51 kanal of state land valued at Rs29 billion in Islamabad, the recovery of Rs3 billion in a major public fraud case to be distributed among 17,214 victims, and significant land seizures by NAB Sukkur and NAB Lahore. Looking ahead, NAB estimates that Rs5 trillion worth of state land remains illegally occupied, with plans underway to retrieve these assets and restore them to public use.
This robust performance underscores NAB’s ongoing commitment to tackling corruption, though challenges remain in ensuring transparency and addressing the vast scale of illicit holdings. As the agency pushes forward, its efforts are being closely watched for their impact on Pakistan’s economic recovery.
