Islamabad, May 18, 2025: n a groundbreaking move to promote humanitarian values and streamline civil records, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced lifetime Smart CNICs for Pakistani citizens who pledge to become organ donors.

This initiative not only encourages a culture of saving lives through organ donation but also modernizes identity documentation in the country.

As part of the organ donation awareness drive, NADRA will now issue lifetime Computerised National Identity Cards embedded with a distinctive green heart symbol for those aged 18 and above who voluntarily register as organ donors.

These upgraded Smart CNICs and NICOPs (National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis) can be obtained at any NADRA registration center or via the Pak-ID mobile app, offering both accessibility and convenience.

Health experts have hailed the initiative as a “pioneering step towards a more socially responsible society,” noting that Pakistan has long struggled with organ donation shortages.

“This visual symbol of commitment may help normalize conversations around donation and ultimately save thousands of lives,” said Dr. Fariha Rizvi, a public health policy analyst.

In parallel, NADRA has launched a digital birth and death registration system across hospitals and healthcare institutions in Pakistan, aiming to eliminate paperwork delays and enhance national data integrity.

The system, developed in partnership with provincial governments, will allow real-time registration of vital events—another leap toward e-governance.

This dual initiative not only reinforces NADRA’s mission of technological advancement but also aligns with global health and civic standards.
