Islamabad, Feb 20: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has reaffirmed that its biometric verification system is fully functional without any technical issues. It clarified that any authentication difficulties encountered by users at banks or telecom companies are independent of its database.
Addressing concerns circulating on social media, NADRA explained that it provides secure identity verification services to financial institutions and telecom operators as per regulatory guidelines. Banks have access to the Verisys system, a highly secure verification platform that ensures identity authentication beyond fingerprint matching.
Verisys operates through a protected connection, enabling banks and telecom providers to verify Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs), and Pakistan Origin Cards. A NADRA representative emphasized that ensuring proper utilization of Verisys for customer authentication falls under the jurisdiction of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

For SIM card issuance and other telecom-related services, NADRA has already collaborated with PTA and mobile network operators to establish a streamlined verification process at designated service centers and authorized franchises. If citizens encounter verification problems, they are encouraged to report complaints directly to their telecom provider or PTA for resolution.
To enhance the verification process further, NADRA is actively working with SBP and PTA to introduce facial recognition technology. This new authentication method will serve as an alternative for cases where fingerprint verification is unsuccessful, ensuring seamless and secure identity verification for all users.
