Islamabad, Aug 7, 2025: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has raised a serious identity theft alert, warning citizens not to share personal data with unofficial websites or mobile apps posing as NADRA. This move comes amid increasing cases of online scams exploiting citizens’ personal details.

Following the recent data breach affecting 2.7 million Pakistanis, NADRA has intensified its focus on public data protection and cybersecurity. Fraudsters have reportedly been offering incentives to unsuspecting individuals in exchange for CNIC numbers, biometric data, and other sensitive details, which are later misused for illegal activities.

Protect Your Identity: Use Only Official NADRA Platforms

NADRA strongly advises all citizens to avoid unnecessary photocopies of their CNICs and to never hand them over as a guarantee to unknown parties. Instead, the authority recommends using only the official “Pak Identity” application for submitting identity-related information.

“Sharing personal information with unverified sources puts your identity at risk,” NADRA emphasized. “In today’s digital world, online safety isn’t optional—it’s essential.”

The authority clarified that original CNICs are sufficient for most government and official procedures, and that photocopies are often not needed unless specifically requested by a verified authority.
