Islamabad, Oct 16: Nasser Hussain Compares Kamran Ghulam to Steve Smith
Former England captain Nasser Hussain has lauded the 29-year-old Pakistani cricketer Kamran Ghulam, drawing analogies to Australia’s Steve Smith for his particular hitting style and coolness under pressure.
During the second Test match between Pakistan and England, which took place in Multan on October 12, Kamran Ghulam captivated the attention of cricket fans with an incredible century.
After Pakistan’s standout batsman Babar Azam was substituted into the playing XI, Kamran made an immediate impression. He showed incredible tenacity and flexibility by scoring 118 runs off 224 balls against a strong England bowling attack. Pakistan, who had lost early wickets and were struggling at 19 for 2, needed his innings badly.
Speaking on Sky Cricket, Nasser Hussain praised Ghulam for his ability to strike a balance between attack and defense, a trait that came in handy on the difficult Multan field. He needed to bide his time.
He has scored a lot of runs within the past three years. He achieved the ideal ratio of attack to defense. They lost a few early wickets, but you want to be out there when making your debut, and that will have benefited him, Hussain said.
Hussain also praised Kamran Ghulam’s poise and skill at the crease, pointing out his deft usage of the sweep shot and footwork in opposition to spin. He declared,
The sweep shot is a favorite move among Pakistani players, and he has one in his locker. He also made use of his feet. When it comes to charging and ball defense, he reminds me a little bit of Steve Smith. There’s a certain swagger to him.
Together with Saim Ayub’s reliable 77, Kamran Ghulam’s century helped Pakistan’s innings to stabilize. After early failures, their partnership of 149 runs enabled the squad get back on track. Notable was Ghulam’s ability to counter Jack Leach’s spin, which had dealt early damage.
