The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), following directives from the Prime Minister, has issued a strong advisory urging tourists to avoid traveling to northern mountainous regions due to the ongoing monsoon season.

Authorities have recommended limiting public transport in high-risk areas, with Section 144 potentially enforced to ensure public safety. Law enforcement agencies in major tourist destinations have been directed to implement these precautionary measures strictly.

The advisory is in line with the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, intensified by a low-pressure system and a westerly wave.

From August 17 to 19, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affecting districts including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Peshawar.

Authorities warn that torrential rainfall may trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs across Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, and surrounding areas, posing serious risks to both residents and travelers. Tourists and locals are strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during this period.
