Islamabad, Aug 11, 2025: Indian javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra is among those pulling out of the Silesia Diamond League 2025 in Poland, the event that will also feature Pakistan Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem on August 16. This meet was hyped as the first Chopra-Nadeem confrontation since they had thrilled Paris 2024 at the Olympics final, with Nadeem winning gold and Chopra silver.

The rematch had been the subject of whispers among organisers in early July, but faded in a month after Nadeem travelled to London to have calf surgery, which means he will miss the fight. Whereas his absence has been anticipated, the move by Chopra is surprising and no official reason is so far given.

Chopra is having a spectacular 2025 season, having won the Potch Invitational in South Africa initially and then massive 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League and the first in India to do so.

He achieved medals in the podium at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial as well as victories in the Paris Diamond League, Ostrava Golden Spike and the NC Classic in India.

Next month in the Tokyo world athletics championship 2025, the two, Chopra and Nadeem, are likely to resume their rivalry battle. The Lausanne Diamond League on August 20 will be the final big competition before the global contest and fans will be desperate to see whether Neeraj Chopra can come back and compete there.
