Islamabad, Dec 3: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an 18 paisa per unit decrease in electricity prices for Karachi consumers under the September 2024 monthly adjustment, as reported by ARY News. This reduction will be reflected in the electricity bills for December 2024, but it will not apply to consumers using up to 300 units per month, as stated in NEPRA’s notification.
Previously, K-Electric had requested a 16 paisa per unit reduction for the September adjustment and asked for approval to refund Rs. 247 million to its consumers.
Recent Adjustments and Tariff Changes:
- August Adjustment: NEPRA approved a 40 paisa per unit increase in K-Electric’s tariff, which will be charged in January 2025 bills.
- June and July Adjustments: K-Electric consumers will pay an additional Rs. 3.17 per unit in November 2024 bills (June adjustment) and Rs. 3.03 per unit in December 2024 bills (July adjustment).
- October Increase: K-Electric had previously announced a Rs. 2.59 per unit increase for October 2024, which will burden consumers further.
- Quarterly Adjustment: A quarterly adjustment of Rs. 1.74 per unit will also be applied, reflecting fuel price variations passed on to consumers.
