Islamabad, Aug 8, 2025: According to a recent news source, the Punjab School Education Department has announced that Grade 8 board exams will now be compulsory for all public sector schools from the next academic session. However, for private educational institutions, participation in these examinations will remain voluntary.
The assessments will be overseen by the Punjab Education Curriculum and Assessment Authority (PECTAA), ensuring standardized testing and evaluation protocols.
The department is expected to unveil a comprehensive blueprint within 20 days, which will include subject breakdowns, marks allocation, and measures for the secure transmission of question papers to exam venues.

The Grade 8 board exams are likely to be held in February or March 2026, although final dates will be confirmed in the official schedule.
Furthermore, the provincial government plans to roll out a reward-based performance system, where schools achieving exceptional outcomes could be recognized and rewarded, while underperforming institutions might face disciplinary steps.
