Islamabad, Aug 8, 2025: The Punjab Education Department has urged parents and citizens to immediately report schools reopening before the official date of September 1 via the education helpline 0316-0261408, warning that swift actions will be taken against violators.

The announcement follows the Punjab government decision to extend summer vacations for all public and private schools due to the ongoing heatwave. Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that the move aims to safeguard students health. However, the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association has strongly opposed the extension calling it harmful to academic progress and exam preparation.

The association pointed out that schools in Islamabad resumed on August 4 while other provinces are operating as normal. They urged Punjab to consider phased reopenings particularly for board exam candidates under strict safety protocols.

In Lahore, the District Education Authority has instructed all area officers to step up monitoring of private institutions to ensure full compliance with closure orders. Field officers have been told to strictly enforce government policies without exception.

Authorities warned that any school found operating in violation of the directives could face immediate penalties including sealing of premises. A complaint desk has also been set up at the authority’s main office to facilitate swift action on public reports.

Officials stressed that no leniency will be shown to those breaching the order, reaffirming that the extended closure is solely to protect students during extreme weather conditions.
