Islamabad, 22 March 2025: Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson may not have found a team in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, but he will still have a role in the tournament.
The right-handed batter has been invited to join the IPL commentary panel for a short 10-day stint during the initial phase of the competition.
Indian media sources revealed that Williamson would be part of the broadcasting team, where his deep understanding of cricket tactics and player strategies is expected to add value.
His commentary is anticipated to provide fans with a fresh perspective on match situations, making his presence in the box highly awaited.
Once his commentary commitments in IPL conclude, Williamson will shift his attention to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025.
Karachi Kings have signed him for the upcoming season, and he will team up with former Australian cricketer David Warner. Both seasoned players are expected to play a key role in Karachi’s campaign for PSL 10.
PSL 2025 is scheduled to take place from April 8 to May 18, marking the first time it will run concurrently with IPL.
This scheduling overlap offers cricket fans the unique experience of following two premier T20 leagues simultaneously.
The PSL matches will be held in Rawalpindi, Karachi, Multan, and Lahore, with the final set to take place in Lahore.
Although Williamson won’t be seen batting in IPL, his commentary stint will keep him connected to the tournament before he takes the field in PSL.
Fans are eager to hear his insights before he returns to action for Karachi Kings.
The IPL 2025 season begins on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens.
