Islamabad, Feb 14: As New Zealand prepares for the tri-nation series final against Pakistan on February 14, Head Coach Gary Stead has provided crucial updates on the fitness of key players Rachin Ravindra and Lockie Ferguson ahead of the Champions Trophy.
Rachin Ravindra’s Recovery Progress
Ravindra’s availability remains uncertain after suffering a forehead injury during the series opener against Pakistan. The all-rounder was struck by a powerful pull shot from Khushdil Shah, leaving him with a visible injury and ongoing fitness concerns.

However, there is optimism regarding his recovery. Stead confirmed that Ravindra’s headaches have subsided, and he has resumed light training, including batting drills at Karachi’s National Stadium. While this is a positive sign, Ravindra must clear further Head Injury Assessment (HIA) protocols before being considered match-fit for the final or the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Lockie Ferguson Nearing Return
On the other hand, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has made significant progress after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained while playing for Desert Vipers in the ILT20. Stead revealed that Ferguson has resumed bowling and has been gradually increasing his intensity in training.
“Lockie has had a couple of bowling sessions since arriving, and he lifted the intensity a little more tonight,” Stead said. The coach indicated that Ferguson is on track to feature either in the tri-series final or in New Zealand’s warm-up match against Afghanistan on February 16.
New Zealand’s Road Ahead
Despite the injury setbacks, New Zealand has had a strong showing in the tri-series, securing wins against both Pakistan and South Africa. With the final looming, the Black Caps will aim to clinch the trophy, boosting their momentum ahead of the Champions Trophy.
