Islamabad, April 4, 2025: Cricket Canada (CC) says it is closely monitoring reports of captain Nicholas Kirton being taken into police custody in Barbados.
The board confirmed that it was aware of the “recent allegations and detainment” involving Kirton, and stressed its commitment to transparency as the situation unfolds.
The Jamaica Gleaner first reported that Barbadian-born cricketer Nicholas Kirton was taken into custody on Sunday, though details of the case remain undisclosed.
The cricket authority in Canada assured the public that it is taking the matter seriously and will provide updates when further information becomes available.

In the official statement, the cricket board emphasised its dedication to maintaining integrity and accountability within the sport.
Despite uncertainty over their captain, the Canadian team remains focused on preparing for the North America Cup, starting April 18 in the Cayman Islands.
The much-awaited tournament will feature teams from the United States of America (USA), Bahamas, Bermuda, and the host nation alongside Canada.
Cricket Canada reaffirmed its support, highlighting that the national players continue to train with professionalism and national pride ahead of the new competition.
The 26-year-old captain has been a key player for Canada, with 21 ODIs games scoring 500+ runs and 28 T20Is matches with over 600 runs.

His cricketing journey began in the Caribbean, where he played for the West Indies Under-19 side and represented Barbados before moving to his country, Canada.
Nicholas Kirton also had a brief stint in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), featuring for the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise back in 2020.
The news of his detention has raised questions about his immediate availability for international duty.
Cricket Canada has not yet commented on whether captain Nicholas Kirton will remain captain for the upcoming crucial tournament.
