The industrial and agricultural sectors in Pakistan are steadily moving towards solar power generation. Just today Big Bird FMCG company announced an agreement for 3MW solar power system.
This has also caused a consistent hike in imports of solar panels, with fears simmering over the tax policy on solar panels in the upcoming budget.
In light of this, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial said on Thursday that the government is not planning to increase the taxes on the import of solar panels. He also said that there are no considerations to impose any additional taxes on solar panels imports either.
Meanwhile, the government has reportedly finalized the new net metering policy, and is planning to roll it out in June 2025.
Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, addressing an event here in Islamabad, said on Thursday that the government has finalized the revisions in the net metering policy and is expected to release it in one month’s time after receiving the Federal Cabinet’s approval.
