Islamabad 6 August : The Indian Army on Tuesday denied reports of a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch region, dismissing claims by some Indian media outlets that Pakistani forces had opened fire.
“There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violation in the Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control,” the Indian Army said in an official statement.
The Pakistani military has not commented on the reports, and no response was available at the time of filing this report.
The clarification comes amid heightened sensitivities surrounding the sixth anniversary of Youm-e-Istehsal — the day Pakistan observes to mark India’s revocation of Article 370, which ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
On this occasion, Pakistan’s armed forces, including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, reiterated their unwavering support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). A joint message from the military leadership reaffirmed Pakistan’s political, moral, and diplomatic commitment to the Kashmiri cause.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours have remained relatively low since a ceasefire understanding was reached in February 2021. However, occasional media reports of cross-border firing continue to raise concerns over the fragile truce.
