The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has activated its vehicle emission testing system, warning that strict action will follow after the August 31 deadline. Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh confirmed that cars without the mandatory Green Sticker will be stopped from using the roads.
In the first stage, vehicles made between 2010 and 2015 are receiving warning slips. EPA spokesperson Sajid Bashir said these slips, along with e-challans, are being sent through the post. He added that drivers ignoring the warnings will face fines and even legal proceedings in the next phase.
“Emission checks on petrol and diesel vehicles are being carried out rigorously in urban areas,” Bashir explained. So far, over 350,000 vehicles have cleared the test and received Green Stickers.
Officials warned that repeated violations could lead to heavy penalties or even vehicles being impounded. Only cars that pass the test for engine, silencer and catalytic converter performance will be allowed the Green Sticker.

The EPA made it clear that during the smog season, no vehicle will be allowed to enter Lahore without this sticker. “No vehicle will be permitted on Lahore roads without the sticker,” the spokesperson stressed.
Authorities have urged citizens to get their cars tested at the nearest booth without delay. The agency also announced that a fixed fee for the Green Sticker will be announced soon.
