Islamabad, Sep 22: North Korea announced on Thursday that it conducted tests of a tactical ballistic missile and a strategic cruise missile, claiming that the tactical missile can carry a “super-large” warhead.
The state-run Korean Central News Agency reported that leader Kim Jong Un supervised the launches of the new Hwasongpho-11-Da-4.5 missile and an upgraded strategic cruise missile.
These tests are part of a series of missile launches this year, which experts suggest may be linked to North Korea’s alleged arms supplies to Russia for the Ukraine conflict. The reported super-large conventional warhead weighs approximately 4.5 tons.
Seoul’s military described the launches as a series of short-range ballistic missiles, which flew around 400 kilometers east of the Korean Peninsula.
The North emphasized that the tests were necessary for enhancing state security, citing regional military tensions as a reason for bolstering its military capabilities.
