The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has released a simplified electronic income tax return form for individual taxpayers for the tax year 2025. The move, finalized through SRO1561 of 2025 after a 40-day consultation period, is aimed at making tax filing easier for citizens.
The new interactive return form works on an auto-fill system, connecting data on purchases, assets, and tax deductions to create a single return. It comes with eight digital windows, each requiring only one entry, guiding filers step by step. For example, entering an employer’s name will automatically show tax deductions, while purchases and bank details linked with a filer’s CNIC will also appear in the form.
The simplified format is available for salaried individuals with additional rental income and for small businesses under a fixed threshold. Anyone earning above that limit will still need to use the standard return process.
Alongside this, the FBR has issued SRO1562 of 2025, introducing simplified forms for salaried persons, companies, associations of persons (AOPs), and business professionals. The filing deadline remains September 30.

A key change requires Pakistani residents with immovable properties or assets abroad to submit an “Electronic Foreign Income and Assets Declaration,” detailing overseas rental income, bank accounts, business earnings, and other assets.
Separate online return forms have also been created for non-residents with no Pakistan-source income, traders, SMEs, and salaried taxpayers. Final versions for manufacturers, traders, and SMEs are now available.
Currently, the simplified form is offered only in English, while the Urdu version is still under preparation. The notification has brought clarity after weeks of uncertainty for taxpayers waiting on the final version.
