Islamabad, Jan 18: A team from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), led by Rabia Abbas Malik (Lead Advancement) and including Abeera Atif (Lead Projects) and Ameer Hamza (Lead Alumni Relations), visited the SITE Association of Industry’s NUST ICON in Karachi. The purpose of the visit was to discuss fundraising initiatives for deserving NUST students, with a focus on increasing financial support from philanthropists, particularly those in Karachi.
During the meeting, the NUST representatives revealed that philanthropists in Karachi contribute 51% of the total funds needed for student scholarships across the country, reflecting the city’s strong commitment to improving education access.
In response, Ahmed Azeem Alvi, President of the SITE Association, praised NUST’s merit-based scholarships and appealed for support in addressing the pressing issues facing Karachi’s industrial areas. He pointed out the critical lack of infrastructure in the city, which he believes needs immediate attention from the government to ensure sustainable growth.

Saleem Parekh, Chief Coordinator of the SITE Association, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to collaborating with NUST and expressed strong support for its educational initiatives. NUST representatives also highlighted the significant cost of higher education, with each student’s four-year education costing approximately 17 lac rupees, and noted that over 2,800 students are currently on the waiting list for scholarships.
The meeting underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing education and addressing the development needs of Karachi’s industrial landscape. The SITE Association, alongside NUST, looks forward to working together to overcome these challenges and secure a brighter future for both students and the city’s industries.
