Islamabad, Jan 20: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) has recently made significant strides in expanding its production capabilities with two major developments in its operations across Pakistan. The company has successfully initiated gas extraction from a new exploratory well located in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, and has notably increased output at the Pasakhi-7 well in District Hyderabad, Sindh.
The exploratory well, named Chak 212-1, marks a milestone as the first discovery in the Mari East Block, situated in the Rahim Yar Khan district. This particular well is of great strategic importance as OGDC boasts a full 100 percent working interest in it.
Following the installation of a 4-inch, 14.5 km flow line linking the well site to the Maru-1 facility, the well began supplying natural gas to Engro Fertilizer. Currently, the well contributes 2.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) to the national grid, supporting both local energy needs and industrial applications.

In addition to the new gas discovery, OGDC has also achieved a substantial increase in oil production at its well-established Pasakhi-7 well, part of the Pasakhi Development & Production Lease where the company holds full ownership. The enhancement efforts included the deployment of a rig to replace the existing tubing and re-complete the well with an advanced artificial lift system known as a Jet Pump. A significant innovation during this process was the introduction of Multiphysio Chemical Stimulation technology, a first for the company in the Southern Region.
These strategic technological integrations have resulted in a marked production increase at Pasakhi Well-7, escalating daily output from 375 barrels per day (BPD) to 520 BPD—an impressive rise of 145 BPD. This boost not only reflects OGDC’s commitment to enhancing its operational efficiencies but also contributes positively to the local economy by ensuring more consistent and increased energy supplies.
These developments underscore OGDC’s proactive approach in leveraging advanced technologies and strategic initiatives to optimize production processes and expand its footprint in the energy sector. As the company continues to explore and enhance its capabilities, it remains a key player in supporting Pakistan’s energy infrastructure and economic growth.
