From Resilience to Transformation: OGDCL Shaping Pakistan’s Future

Founded in 1961, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) began its journey with a clear mission — to explore and develop Pakistan’s oil and gas resources. What started as OGDC has since evolved into the country’s largest energy company, listed on both the Karachi and London Stock Exchanges and repeatedly featured in the Forbes Global 2000. In 1997, the company restructured into a Public Limited Company, setting the stage for decades of resilience, growth, and innovation.

Today, OGDCL stands as a symbol of strength and national pride. Strategically established across Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, the company holds more than 40% of Pakistan’s awarded hydrocarbon acreage. With 50 oil and gas fields and 18 processing facilities, it continues to power the nation every day. Its daily crude production has surged close to 50,000 barrels, made possible through modern technologies like electrical submersible pumps and advanced production enhancements.

The future looks even brighter. OGDCL aims to boost Pakistan’s gas output from around 800 million cubic feet per day to 1 billion cubic feet per day within the next three years. This expansion reflects not just numbers, but a strategic vision of energy security and national progress.

On the global front, OGDCL has extended its reach through the Offshore Block-5 project in Abu Dhabi, as part of the Pakistan International Oil Limited (PIOL) consortium. Partnering with ADNOC, this historic collaboration marks the first international venture for Pakistani exploration and production companies. Production from this venture is expected by 2027, placing OGDCL firmly on the international energy map.
