Islamabad, Feb 11: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has taken serious action against illegal activities involving the decanting, theft of gas, and the dangerous practice of mixing carbon dioxide (CO2) with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as the manufacturing of substandard LPG cylinders. OGRA teams have been dispatched to various identified areas to address these issues.
Illegal CO2 mixing with LPG has been traced in locations such as Khairpur Mirus, Ghotki, Pano Aqil, and Ranipur in Sindh province. Substandard cylinder manufacturing has been found in Gujranwala. Additionally, the teams have visited LPG sites in Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan, where fire outbreaks in LPG plants caused significant losses.

The enforcement teams, working with local authorities, have raided four sites in Sindh where illegal CO2 mixing with LPG was occurring, and have sealed these sites immediately. FIRs have been lodged against those responsible. Three illegal manufacturing sites of substandard LPG cylinders were also shut down in Gujranwala, with legal actions taken.
OGRA has urged the Chief Secretaries, Commissioner of Sukkur, and the Customs Collectorate to enhance local safety measures and prevent the illegal sale of LPG in these areas. The authority stressed that the mixing of CO2 with LPG is highly dangerous, as CO2 has a higher pressure than LPG, which can lead to severe risks including explosions and environmental harm.
