Islamabad, Sep 21: Ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Lahore on September 21, the Punjab Police have detained over 100 party workers under preventive detention, citing concerns about maintaining public order.
The arrests were made under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act, with prominent party members such as Aslam Iqbal, Mian Hasan, and others among those detained.
The police claim that the detainees were involved in activities that could lead to public unrest. In response, PTI has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court, arguing that the arrests infringe upon their constitutional right to hold peaceful assemblies.
The petition, submitted by Sheikh Imtiaz and Yasir Gillani, urges the court to halt further arrests and ensure the rally proceeds without interference.
PTI’s rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, led by chairman Imran Khan, is aimed at asserting democratic rights, and the party is seeking legal protection to prevent further crackdowns.
