The advisory confirmed that sensitive data from local users including information from government-linked platforms like Instagram and Snapchat has been collected and stored in an illicit database using advanced malware techniques.

Authorities have warned that this breach heightens the risk of identity fraud, account takeovers, and ransomware campaigns. Financial institutions and public sector systems could also be vulnerable, the advisory added.

Global Data Breach advisory issued several key recommendations for internet users across the country. These include:

  • Changing passwords immediately, especially for frequently used and sensitive accounts.
  • Enabling two-factor authentication to provide an added layer of security.
  • Avoiding the storage of passwords in emails or unsecured digital files.
  • Using password managers to create and store strong, encrypted credentials.
  • Monitoring accounts for suspicious login attempts or unrecognized devices.
  • Updating antivirus software and regularly scanning systems for threats.

The advisory also urged organizations and government bodies to alert affected individuals promptly and tighten security frameworks to prevent further breaches.
