Islamabad, Aug 15, 2025: Murree tourist vehicles exceeded expectations this Independence Day, with over 53,000 entering the hill station, although the city can accommodate only 5,000 at a time. The tourist rush continued on Thursday, creating an unprecedented demand for traffic management.

A traffic police spokesperson confirmed that while over 53000 tourist vehicles arrived, simultaneous departures kept the total on the ground between 6,000 and 9,000 vehicles at any given moment. To manage the influx, over 200 traffic police officers were deployed across key points to assist visitors and maintain order.

Authorities are conducting driving licence checks at entry points, and motorcyclists without helmets are being denied access to ensure safety. Entry to Mall Road remains restricted for individuals without family groups, as per traffic regulations.

CTO Waseem Akhtar and Traffic Officer Murree Sohail Shahzad personally supervised traffic operations to ensure smooth flow. All main roads remained open, while pamphlets promoting safe travel were distributed among tourists. Despite smooth traffic overall, pedestrian congestion at GPO Chowk caused minor delays, highlighting the importance of following traffic guidelines.

Visitors are advised to park only in designated areas, avoid double parking, and refrain from illegal maneuvers. Continuous patrolling by officers aims to prevent violations and ensure uninterrupted movement.

Considering monsoon conditions, City Traffic Police Murree issued a special advisory. CTO Waseem Akhtar emphasized checking driving licences and fitness certificates for public service vehicles. Tourists were advised to use well-maintained vehicles, keep wipers and lights functional, drive cautiously on slippery roads, and respect one-way traffic rules.

Parking on roads for photography is strictly prohibited as it disrupts traffic. Tourists are urged to follow traffic warden instructions, who play a crucial role in ensuring safe and pleasant journeys.
