Islamabad, Dec 13: NADRA has blocked more than 71000 CNICs in Pakistan during the last five years: NADRA. Again, in the same order, the highest number of blocked cards related to buying foreign currency came from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab.
Of these, over 44,900 CNICs that had been suspended were restored after using verification processes and over 13,100 CNICs are still in suspense.
On the other hand, the Sindh government has recommended that problems associated with blocked IDs should be tackled by modifying the Citizenship Act.
Also, the government has barred or blocked around 80 000 SIMs in a bid to fight fake news. Others are creating a taskforce and suggesting improving the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act for better addressing of the misinformation.
