The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has initiated relief operation in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The dry rations which included food and other necessary medicines were delivered in a C-130 plane to flood struck areas comprising a total of seven tons of food stuffs and medicines. The consignment will be relayed in assistance with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). In spite of the road blockages, the supplies arrived in time in the affected communities.

Besides, 75 individuals who were trapped in the floods were relocated to secure places. Rescue efforts of the residents affected by the disaster are underway. Vast areas in Gilgit-Baltistan continue to be civic deprived of water, power, and road communications weeks after flash floods. Local people are already beginning to repair water channels and roads with most major goings including the Naltar Highway and Ghizer-Shandur Road still under closure. Skardu along with Baltistan Highway has been reopened in a roundu valley after several days of cutoff.

Ghizer has been determined to be the worst affected district. Officials say the worst floods recorded in the history of the region killed 39 people including foreigners, and caused Rs30 billion worth of damage. A minimum of 24 people were wounded in addition to the loss of 35 bridges and damage to several religious and educational buildings. About 350 houses were totaled and 600 partially damaged.

The PAF is sustaining its relief operation to help Gilgit-Baltistan, which includes provision of essential supplies and evacuation of victims.
