Islamabad, Nov 8: Pakistan and AD Ports Sign MoUs to Boost Collaboration in Rail, Airport, and Maritime Sectors on Friday. Pakistan and Abu Dhabi Ports Group formalized four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including railway, airport infrastructure, and maritime shipping and logistics.
These MoUs were signed during a meeting where a high-level group of UAE investors, led by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, visited Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, as reported by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The prime minister was present for the signing of MoUs involving the ministries of maritime affairs, aviation, railways, and the Federal Board of Revenue with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group.According to the MoUs, both Pakistan and the AD Ports Group will investigate opportunities for collaboration in customs, railway, airport infrastructure, and maritime shipping and logistics.
The agreements aim to enhance digital customs operations, create dedicated freight rail corridors, improve Pakistan’s maritime fleet and marine services, and upgrade the country’s international airports.
During the meeting with the delegation, the prime minister expressed his appreciation to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for their ongoing support to Pakistan.He emphasized that the close ties between Pakistan and the UAE are grounded in a shared history and culture.
The prime minister noted the extensive economic partnership shared between the two countries across various sectors such as trade, energy, and investment, which has driven growth and prosperity in both nations.
He stated that this visit showcased the UAE government’s commitment to further increasing its investment presence in Pakistan. He also emphasized that UAE investments would be vital in strengthening Pakistan’s economy.
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi expressed his gratitude to the prime minister for the warm reception and hospitality. He conveyed his satisfaction with the current investments by AD Ports in Pakistan and showed a strong interest in expanding investment in areas like shipping, port efficiency, logistics, and the digitization of customs.
The UAE delegation included Chairman of Kaheel Group Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Ports Group Capt. Mohamed Al Shamisi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, and senior officials from the AD Ports.
Representing Pakistan were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and other senior government officials.
