Islamabad, Sep 25: Under the China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention of Major Infrastructures, Pakistan and China have inked five agreements to deepen their collaboration in disaster prevention.
China Economic Net reported on Wednesday that Southeast University of China signed agreements with five Pakistani universities: NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi; University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore; University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar; and Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).
Research in fields including structural health monitoring, earthquake engineering, and catastrophe risk reduction technologies would all benefit from the collaboration. It would probably contribute to the establishment of new R&D centers in Pakistan, laying the groundwork for upcoming initiatives.
To guarantee the success of the collaborative projects, both parties demanded policy assistance from their governments and disaster management authorities. Plans for talent exchange programs and cooperative efforts to create international standards for catastrophe protection technologies are also outlined in the agreements.
