Pakistan and Denmark are working closely to ensure Danish shipping leader AP Moller-Maersk spearheads this ambitious investment, which is expected to revolutionize Pakistan’s maritime logistics and operations.
The agenda of the meeting emphasized modernizing logistics frameworks and incorporating eco-conscious technologies such as solar- and wind-powered port systems, electrified cargo handling, and energy-efficient shipping vessels.
Training programs for maritime professionals were also discussed to equip them with the skills needed for managing sustainable infrastructure and green fleets. These initiatives, officials noted, will not only reduce Pakistan’s carbon footprint but also establish the country as a responsible and forward-looking trade partner on the global stage.
The integration of renewable energy sources at major ports is central to the plan. Minister Chaudhry emphasized that reliance on fossil fuels will gradually be replaced by clean, locally-sourced energy.
This shift aligns with Pakistan’s broader goals for environmental conservation and aligns with global best practices in maritime logistics. Pakistan and Denmark have set an example for other nations by prioritizing green innovation in trade infrastructure.
Danish shipping giant Maersk, whose CEO Vincent Clerc is scheduled to visit Pakistan this week, will play a pivotal role in implementing the MoU. His meetings with Pakistan’s prime minister and top officials aim to solidify the road map for long-term maritime development.
The minister added that collaboration with Maersk will bring in international expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and global operational standards that will benefit Pakistan’s shipping and port sectors.
