Islamabad, Jan 25: On Friday, Dr. Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Water Resources, met with Martin Raiser, World Bank Vice President for South Asia, to discuss strategies for strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing key development projects in Pakistan.
The meeting emphasized the significance of international partnerships in tackling challenges such as energy security and achieving sustainable development goals. Dr. Malik expressed his gratitude for the World Bank’s ongoing support in critical sectors like energy, infrastructure, and the social sector. He underscored that working closely with partners such as the World Bank is vital to enhancing economic resilience and improving the lives of Pakistani communities.

Discussions centered on major water-related projects, including the Dasu Hydropower Project and the Tarbela Extension Project, along with broader strategies to improve infrastructure, energy efficiency, and technological innovation. Both Dr. Malik and Raiser highlighted the need for tailored policies and investments to ensure the sustainable growth of these projects.
Dr. Malik proposed adopting a capital investment management framework to improve the efficiency and planning of development initiatives. Martin Raiser supported this proposal, acknowledging it as a beneficial step for the mutual progress of both parties.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to maintain open dialogue and strengthen cooperation moving forward. The participants also included senior officials from the Ministry of Water Resources and World Bank representatives, including Kishan Abeygunawardana, Mohammad Anis, and Eva Liselotte Lescrauwaet.
This collaborative effort between Pakistan and the World Bank is set to enhance Pakistan’s development trajectory, focusing on sustainable growth and strengthening vital sectors such as water resources and energy.
