Islamabad, 13 May, 2025: PCB has confirmed the appointment of former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson as the new head coach for white-ball teams.
He is set to take charge from May 26, shortly before Pakistan’s T20I series against Bangladesh.
The position had been vacant since October 29, when Gary Kirsten stepped down due to reported disagreements with PCB officials.
In the interim, Aaqib Javed had been entrusted with the role until the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed Hesson on X, saying he was chosen after careful review of many applications.
Naqvi expressed confidence that Hesson’s international experience would be valuable in rebuilding the white-ball unit.
Hesson, who is currently serving as the head coach of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, brings with him a solid coaching résumé.
He previously led New Zealand’s national team and has also worked with Kenya and various franchise sides.

Alongside this development, the PCB also announced Aaqib Javed’s appointment as the Director of High Performance.
Naqvi said this step was aimed at improving Pakistan’s cricketing structure and hoped that Hesson and Javed would work closely to elevate the team’s overall standards.
Javed had stepped away from his coaching role after the Champions Trophy, and his new position signals a broader strategy shift within the PCB’s leadership setup.
These appointments come at a key moment as Pakistan aims to recover from poor showings in recent major tournaments.
The upcoming home series against Bangladesh, starting May 25, will mark the beginning of a new chapter under Hesson’s guidance.
