Islamabad, July 27, 2025: Pakistan’s electric vehicle revolution is gaining rapid momentum, with over 3,800 local and foreign investors lining up to set up EV charging stations across the country. The National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) has confirmed that the country is witnessing an unprecedented surge in interest for EV infrastructure development.

According to NEECA’s Managing Director Dr. Moazzam, 71 licenses have already been granted for EV charging stations, of which 30 to 35 are now fully operational. These stations are currently undergoing formal registration, while 128 more applications are in advanced stages of approval.

“We’re actively collaborating with international and domestic companies. Many are just a step away from launching operations,” said Dr. Moazzam.

Why the Sudden Rush?

The main driver behind this spike in investment is the government’s decision to slash electricity tariffs specifically for EV charging stations. This strategic move aims to accelerate Pakistan’s transition toward a cleaner, sustainable transportation system while reducing fuel import dependency.

“Once companies meet documentation requirements, licenses are processed within just 15 days,” Dr. Moazzam added. “This swift process is a key part of Pakistan’s long-term plan to attract green investment.”

A Green Future in the Making

NEECA’s fast-tracking of licenses and transparent application pipeline has boosted confidence among both domestic startups and international energy giants. With thousands of potential charging points on the horizon, experts believe Pakistan could become a major player in South Asia’s EV market.
