Islamabad, Aug 15, 2025: Pakistan has blocked hundreds of terror-linked social media accounts and reported over 850 others to global platforms for swift action, officials confirmed.
The crackdown focuses on profiles connected to banned outfits such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Baloch Liberation Army, and Baloch Liberation Front—groups already designated as terrorist organizations by the UN, US, and UK.
According to official figures, the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tracked over 850 such accounts. Out of these, 533 accounts—collectively having more than 2 million followers—are already blocked, while action continues against the rest.
These accounts were active across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, and WhatsApp. PTA has met with representatives from these platforms, seeking relevant data to accelerate removals. Facebook and TikTok responded positively, acting on more than 90% of requests.
Telegram, despite being banned in Pakistan, offered complete cooperation. However, X and WhatsApp complied with only around 30% of requests.

Officials highlighted that while Pakistan’s electronic and print media remain free from extremist propaganda, militant groups still exploit online platforms to spread fear, incite violence, and lure new recruits.
The government has called on global companies to permanently block such profiles, deploy advanced AI-driven monitoring to remove harmful content, and maintain quick communication with Pakistani agencies for better enforcement.
