Islamabad 27 July: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja held a high-level meeting with a Chinese delegation on the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.

According to news reports, the meeting explored launching an AI skills exchange program aimed at equipping Pakistani youth with advanced digital capabilities. Discussions also centered on partnering with Pakistan’s National IT Board to develop digital governance solutions and promoting joint ventures between Chinese firms and Pakistani startups in health tech, edtech, and fintech sectors.

The Chinese delegation expressed keen interest in showcasing AI-driven smart maintenance machinery and applications in Pakistan, as well as advancing research in AI-powered Chinese medicine, particularly for treating chronic and neurological disorders.

Minister Khawaja welcomed the proposals, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to harnessing emerging technologies for inclusive and sustainable development. She assured the delegation of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication’s full support in facilitating cross-border innovation and strengthening digital capacity-building initiatives.

The Chinese delegation included Cheng Dong, a senior member of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Executive Vice President of the Zhangjiang High-tech City Medical Innovation Research Institute; Liu Yuangui, Vice President of Shenlan Technology (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.; Professor Zhao Shanting, a German-trained medical expert and doctoral supervisor; and Dr. He Bin, a German PhD and research assistant.
