Pakistan customs procedures are set for a major upgrade as AI-based systems gradually replace manual verification, the shift is aimed at making trade processes more transparent, efficient and business-friendly.

Government has asked authorities to reduce administrative delays, follow international best practices and provide maximum facilitation to importers and exporters. He noted that the customs reforms are designed not only to make life easier for traders but also to strengthen government revenues.

It was also highlighted that successful implementation will require close coordination among all relevant bodies under a unified plan. Also reiterated that boosting investment, promoting trade and improving the ease of doing business remain central government goals.

Officials informed the meeting that the new framework will feature faceless customs assessments and empower independent officers to hear appeals, ensuring fairness and impartiality. Steps are also being taken to make the appeals process more transparent.

In addition, the government is working on better planning for ports to cut clearance times and ensure goods reach their destinations more quickly.
