Islamabad, May 20, 2025: In a sharp rebuttal to growing tensions, Pakistan has firmly dismissed Indian allegations of an attempted drone strike on the Golden Temple, calling the accusation not only “baseless” but also a dangerous distortion of facts.
The statement comes amid rising hostility across the Line of Control (LoC), following a deadly exchange of fire earlier in the month.
Responding to a senior Indian military official’s accusation that Pakistan attempted to strike the revered Golden Temple in Amritsar on the night of May 7–8, the Pakistani Foreign Office called the claim “categorically false.”

“We strongly reject the allegation that Pakistan would ever contemplate targeting the Golden Temple, a site sacred to millions of Sikhs worldwide,” stated the spokesperson.
They emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering respect for all religious sites, describing such accusations as “deeply irresponsible and provocative.”
In contrast, Pakistan accused India of launching unprovoked military strikes on May 6–7, hitting multiple religious sites within Pakistani territory. “Instead of deflecting attention with fabricated narratives, India must answer for these unacceptable acts,” the spokesperson added.
To highlight its credibility, Pakistan pointed to its stewardship of major Sikh religious landmarks and its long-standing support for Sikh pilgrims through initiatives like the Kartarpur Corridor, which allows visa-free access for Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit one of their holiest sites in Pakistan.

In the aftermath of the Indian attacks, Pakistan confirmed over 50 fatalities, including soldiers and civilians. In response, the Pakistani military-initiated Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, a counter-offensive described as “measured but firm,” targeting Indian military infrastructure along the LoC.
The escalating situation quickly captured the attention of the international community. Calls for restraint from global powers eventually led to a brokered ceasefire—temporarily calming what could have spiraled into full-scale conflict.
