Islamabad, Nov 10: Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister issued a compelling call to action for global and regional leaders to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
Expressing deep concern over the escalating violence in Gaza and broader Middle East, he emphasized the need for concrete, unified steps to support the Palestinian people and uphold their rights.
The Deputy Prime Minister began by commending Saudi Arabia’s leadership, under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for their efforts in hosting the preparatory meeting.
He also acknowledged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League for their continued advocacy of the Palestinian cause.
The Minister noted that, despite significant resolutions from last year’s joint Arab-Islamic summit aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, the situation has since deteriorated, with Palestinian civilians bearing the brunt of ongoing hostilities.
“Over the past year, the brutality inflicted on Palestinians has intensified,” he remarked. “The death toll has surpassed 44,000, countless others have been injured, and entire communities have been uprooted.”
He highlighted that essential civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and shelters, has been deliberately destroyed, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) recently warned that Gaza has become “the most dangerous place in the world for aid workers,” as international aid continues to face severe restrictions.
In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed disappointment with the ineffectiveness of international bodies like the UN Security Council, whose calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian assistance have gone unheeded.
He strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strikes extending beyond Palestinian borders into neighboring countries, calling these actions a threat to regional stability.
Outlining Pakistan’s proposed course of action, he urged for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire, free humanitarian access, and support for Palestinian membership in the UN.
Additionally, he called for an arms embargo on Israel and accountability measures for alleged war crimes. He also expressed hope for increased U.S. engagement in fostering Middle East peace following the recent American elections.
In closing, the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for a viable, independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
He praised Saudi Arabia’s recent formation of the Global Alliance for a Two-State Solution, pledging Pakistan’s active contribution to its goals.
