Islamabad, Mar 20 2025: Aqib Javed has indicated the possibility of making minor adjustments to the playing XI for the third T20I against New Zealand in Auckland.
With the series slipping away after two consecutive defeats, Javed remains confident that a strategic reshuffle could improve the team’s performance.
He stressed that while the squad is in a rebuilding phase, their focus is still on achieving success in major upcoming events such as the Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup.
Acknowledging the difficulties of playing in unfamiliar conditions, he noted that less-experienced players often struggle in New Zealand, which may lead to changes in the lineup.
Addressing growing concerns from fans following Pakistan’s losses, Javed acknowledged the frustration but urged patience.
The former Lahore Qalandars head coach emphasized that immediate success is not always possible, and rebuilding a strong team takes time.
Javed also highlighted the need for Pakistan to adapt to modern T20 cricket trends. He pointed out that top teams now have specialized squads, and Pakistan must follow suit.
The former cricketer added that a high strike rate has become essential in the shortest format, making tactical adjustments necessary.
The coach believes playing in tough conditions abroad will help young players excel on high-scoring Asian pitches.
Aqib Javed also noted that the return of key players such as Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman would strengthen the squad.
The former pacer also raised concerns over poor form of Shaheen Afridi but remains hopeful Pakistan can win with a strong batting total.
