Islamabad, June 11, 2025: In a historic initiative, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched Pakistan’s first and exemplary Virtual Blood Bank, a digital project designed to ensure the immediate availability of blood in emergencies.

This unique system allows patients or their families to call the emergency helpline 15, and by pressing button 4, they will be directly connected to the Virtual Blood Bank. Once the call is received, a duty officer at Punjab Safe City obtains the patient’s location and blood group.

In a swift response mechanism, the system identifies registered blood donors in the patient’s area and connects them to the patient’s family via a conference call. This timely coordination ensures that life-saving blood reaches the patient without delay.

Key Features of the Virtual Blood Bank:

  • Operates through Punjab Police Helpline 15
  • Instant connection with donors based on location and blood group
  • Active support from local police officers in donation efforts
  • 24/7 availability across Punjab

The initiative is fully integrated with the Punjab Safe City Authority, where more than 25,000 blood donors are already registered. This includes 10,000 police officers and over 15,000 civilians who have voluntarily joined the noble cause.
