Islamabad, June 25, 2025: In a major milestone for Pakistan’s engineering community, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has successfully secured a six-year extension in its full membership of the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA). This prestigious renewal significantly enhances the global recognition and mobility of Pakistani engineers, placing them on par with their international counterparts.

The announcement was made during the International Engineering Alliance Meetings (IEAM) 2025, held from June 8 to 13 in Mexico. PEC was represented by Senior Vice Chairman Engr. Dr. Sarosh Lodhi, who reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued compliance with international engineering benchmarks.

The IPEA, operating under the International Engineering Alliance (IEA), is a vital agreement that allows cross-border recognition of professional engineers across member economies. Thanks to this renewal, Pakistani engineers registered as IntPE-PAK can work in IPEA member countries without undergoing additional evaluations, enhancing their career prospects worldwide.

Pakistan originally gained full IPEA membership in 2018 after undergoing a comprehensive peer-review process. Since then, PEC has awarded the International Professional Engineer (IntPE) title to eligible engineers, supporting their aspirations for global careers. This six-year extension stands as a testament to PEC’s robust regulatory framework and commitment to international standards in engineering education, ethics, and professional development.

Speaking on the achievement, Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir called it a landmark for the nation. “This extension validates the international community’s trust in our engineers and our regulatory systems. It will open new doors for Pakistani engineers to contribute to global infrastructure and development projects,” he stated.

Looking ahead, PEC plans to streamline the IntPE registration process further, expand its outreach to engineering professionals, and deepen international collaborations. The move not only uplifts the status of Pakistani engineers but also strengthens Pakistan’s position in the global engineering fraternity.
