Islamabad, May 23, 2025: A severe heatwave is expected to grip most plains of the country on Friday, with temperatures in southern regions (Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan) likely to soar 4–6°C above normal, and 5–7°C above normal in northern regions (central/upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The weather will remain hot and dry across most parts of the country, with extreme heat in the plains. However, partly cloudy skies are expected during the evening/night in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Islamabad, and northeastern Punjab.

A few areas may witness dust storms, thunderstorms, and isolated rainfall, with chances of hailstorms at some locations.

The weather will continue to be hot and dry, particularly in the plains. However, areas such as Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Islamabad, and upper Punjab may experience partly cloudy skies, along with gusty winds, thunder, and light rain at isolated spots. Hailstorms remain a possibility.

The weather remained hot and dry in most parts, with extreme heat in the plains. The highest temperatures recorded were:

  • Sibi & Dadu: 50°C
  • Rahim Yar Khan & Kot Addu: 49°C
  • Bahawalpur & Jacobabad: 48°C

Regional Forecasts:

Islamabad

  • Thursday night: Hot and dry
  • Frida: Extremely hot and dry by day; 40% chance of evening thunderstorms and gusty winds

Punjab

  • Most districts will face extremely hot and dry weather. However, evening thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, D.G. Khan, and surrounding areas.

Sindh

  • Severe heat and dryness across most districts. Coastal areas may see dust storms or strong winds in the afternoon.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • Hot and dry in most districts; extreme heat in southern and central regions. Evening showers, thunderstorms likely in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Batagram, Swabi, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kurram, Khyber, and Kohat.

Balochistan

  • Generally hot and dry; extreme heat in southern parts. Evening dust storms and thunderstorms expected in Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, and nearby areas.

Kashmir

  • Hot and dry during the day; evening thunderstorms, strong winds, and scattered rain possible.

Gilgit-Baltistan

  • Warm and dry day, followed by partly cloudy skies and thunderstorms at night.
