Islamabad, Oct 8: Pakistan Introduces Its First Legal Advice Chatbot, Offering Free Verification from Human Lawyers. The first multilingual legal advice chatbot in Pakistan, NAZ Assist, was introduced by the Legal Aid Society (LAS) and can offer free legal assistance in English, Urdu, Sindhi, and Pashto. On the LAS website, users can converse with the NAZ Assist chatbot.
NAZ Assist has the name of Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid, the founder of LAS and a former Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court and Supreme Court judge. The goal of the chatbot is to close the justice gap, which has led to Pakistan’s dismal ranking of 130th out of 142 nations in the 2023 WJP Rule of Law Index.
The Sindh Legal Advisory Call Center (SLACC) has collected insights from over 450,000 logged calls for legal aid since 2014, which the chatbot uses to make sure the advise is applicable to Pakistan’s legal system. In a statement, Barrister Haya Eman Zahid, the organization’s CEO, said:
Additionally, the bot will contribute to LAS’s increased inclusivity by enabling deaf and silent differently-abled individuals to obtain initial legal assistance with just a button press. This is also consistent with the generational shift that has resulted in young people choosing to text rather than talk on the phone.
The ability for users to double-check each and every piece of advice provided by the bot which, because it is artificial intelligence is a noteworthy feature of NAZ Assist. Users can confirm by contacting a lawyer for free at the Sindh Legal Advisory Call Center’s Helpline at 0800-70806 or by putting their name and number into the bot to get a free callback from a lawyer.
Zahid went on to say: We also offer programs for minority girls who are being forced to convert, women who are victims of gender-based abuse, and women who are not receiving their fair portion of inheritance. We haven’t put this behind a paywall or charged anything. Our true goal is to facilitate people’s access to justice.
