Islamabad, Feb 19: Pakistan has launched the “Pak ID” mobile application to simplify the visa-on-arrival process for travelers from 120 eligible countries. Developed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), this initiative enhances accessibility by enabling users to apply for business and tourist visas directly from their smartphones. With real-time tracking and a streamlined 24-hour processing system, the app significantly reduces waiting times and eliminates the need for in-person visits.
The app incorporates advanced features such as facial recognition, document scanning, and secure photo uploads, ensuring a smooth and efficient application process. By leveraging digital technology, Pakistan aims to modernize its visa system, which currently serves citizens from 192 countries. The mobile application sends timely notifications, allowing applicants to stay updated on their visa status with ease. Available for free on both Android and iOS platforms, “Pak ID” is expected to boost tourism and facilitate business travel by minimizing bureaucratic delays.

In addition to visa applications, the app also assists overseas Pakistanis in obtaining identity cards, reflecting NADRA’s broader commitment to digital transformation in public services. While the current version supports Visa Before Arrival (VPA) applications, other visa categories remain accessible through the official Pakistan Online Visa System (POVS) website.
In a separate development, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a state-of-the-art 24/7 passport office at NADRA’s Mega Centre in Karachi’s North Nazimabad. During his visit, he engaged with applicants and staff, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing public service efficiency.
Furthermore, in a move to support international media coverage, Pakistan has issued visas to all seven Indian journalists who applied to cover the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. This gesture ensures seamless reporting of the tournament and reflects Pakistan’s commitment to fostering global sports relations.
With these advancements, Pakistan is taking significant steps toward digital governance and improved public service accessibility, making international travel and documentation more convenient for both visitors and citizens.
