Pakistan has launched its first Google Chromebook Assembly Line, marking a major step in the country’s digital and industrial development.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar called it a momentous occasion in Pakistan’s digital journey. He said local assembly of Chromebooks would not only promote affordable access to modern tools but also generate jobs, strengthen the local supply chain, and open avenues for technology exports.

The initiative aims to make digital technology more affordable and accessible, especially for students and the education sector.

Ishaq Dar highlighted that Google’s decision to open a local office in Pakistan reflects confidence in the country’s digital potential. “It represents a strategic milestone with far-reaching implications for the digital economy, innovation ecosystem, and global investor confidence,” he said.

He added that Google’s local presence would support Pakistani startups and entrepreneurs through direct collaboration, training, and access to global platforms. Under a new partnership, Pakistan and Google will also train 100,000 developers nationwide to enhance digital skills and promote localized technology solutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Pakistan a regional hub for technology and innovation, supported by fair taxation and investor-friendly policies.

Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima said the Chromebook assembly launch combines technology, manufacturing, and education, calling it a transformative step in Pakistan’s digital future.
