Islamabad, Dec 12: Pakistan showed great resilience but ultimately lost 2-1 to Germany in a tense playoff match at the WSF World Team Squash Championship 2024, held in Hong Kong, China.
The match began with a thrilling encounter between Germany’s Raphael Kandra and Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan. After a hard-fought five-game battle, Kandra triumphed 3-2, winning 11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4, and 11-9.
Pakistan responded strongly in the second match, with Nasir Iqbal dominating Germany’s Yannik Omlor in straight games, securing a convincing 3-0 victory with scores of 11-8, 11-2, and 11-6 in just 27 minutes.
The final match saw Germany’s Simon Rösner face Pakistan’s Noor Zaman. Noor initially led after winning the first game 11-8, but Rösner used his experience to come back and win the next three games 11-7, 11-5, and 11-4, clinching the match and the playoff for Germany.
Pakistan now looks ahead to its SC6 playoff against Canada, scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 PM PST, as they aim to end the World Team Squash Championship on a high.
