Islamabad, May 7, 2025: In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s recent military strikes under “Operation Sindoor,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has intensified diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.
Rubio held discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open communication channels and avoiding further escalation.
The military operation was launched by India in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” Rubio wrote on his official X timeline.
India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants, a claim Pakistan has denied, calling for a neutral investigation.
Rubio expressed the United States’ commitment to fostering a peaceful resolution between the two nations. “I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” Rubio stated, echoing President Trump’s earlier comments hoping for a swift end to the hostilities.
In his discussions with Pakistani officials, Rubio underscored the need for cooperation on counterterrorism efforts and the importance of addressing concerns through diplomatic channels.
He also reiterated the U.S. stance of not assigning blame for the April 22 incident, instead focusing on encouraging both nations to engage in constructive dialogue.
“I echo the US President’s comments earlier today (Tuesday) that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution,” he added.
The U.S. maintains strategic partnerships with both India and Pakistan, making its role in mediating tensions crucial.
