Islamabad, July 22, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan was committed to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese nationals residing and working in the country, as the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) begins.

Chairing a meeting on security arrangements for Chinese citizens, Shehbaz stated that safeguarding Chinese citizens was a “top government priority”. Referring to China as a “friendly country”, he stated that the confidence of Chinese companies in Pakistan’s economy was important for the nation’s future development.

The PM detailed several initiatives aimed at improving security for Chinese nationals, including ongoing “Safe City” projects nationwide. The projects are designed to international standards and focus on improving urban security infrastructure and surveillance.

With CPEC entering its second phase and focusing on business-to-business cooperation, Shehbaz said that protecting Chinese citizens has become even more critical. He directed authorities to prioritise security improvements at all airports to facilitate the arrival and departure of Chinese nationals.

Officials briefed the PM on the progress of special security measures implemented across the country to address potential terrorist threats. The Interior Minister presented details of coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities, noting that security escort services are now available to Chinese nationals during travel.

It was also reported hat all upcoming housing developments will be equipped with surveillance cameras meeting the Safe City standards.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, and  Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
