Islamabad, Aug 26: In comparison to one million commercially imported mobile devices, 18.95 million were made and assembled locally in the first seven months of 2024 (January through July). According to official figures, 1.61 million mobile devices were produced or assembled domestically in July, as opposed to 0.16 million that were commercially imported.
18.95 million mobile phones, including 6.85 million 2G and 12.1 million smartphones, were produced and assembled locally. Furthermore, according to PTA data, 38% of mobile devices on the Pakistan network are 2G, and 62% of mobile devices are smartphones.
In July of the current fiscal year 2024–25, the nation imported mobile phones valued $64.504 million, a 5.30 percent decrease from the same month the previous fiscal year 2023–24’s $68.113 million. In terms of rupees, the nation imported 17.957 billion worth of mobile phones in July 2024, a 6.18 percent decline in growth from the 19.140 billion imported in the same month in 2023.
According to data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan’s mobile phone imports fell by 76.84 percent on a month-over-month (MoM) basis in July 2024, standing at $64.504 million compared to imports of $278.574 million in June 2024.In July 2024, the total amount of telecom imports into the nation was $102.587 million, a 13.25% increase from $90.588 million in the same month the previous year. In the fiscal year 2023–2024, the nation imported mobile phones valued at $1.898 billion, a 233 percent increase over the $570.071 million imported in the fiscal year 2022–2023.
